GETTING HERE
The ‘Dartmoor Way’ offers a relaxing way to explore on foot or by bike - so why not leave the car in the garage while you take a carefree, car-free holiday?

Many of the listed accommodation providers offer a Baggage Forwarding Service enabling you to travel light. If you do have to bring your car, most will let you leave it at your first accommodation to allow you to walk or cycle unimpeded. Check out our public transport links.

There are fast rail routes from London, Bristol, Birmingham and many other locations around the country. Mainline train services will take you to Exeter, Newton Abbot and Totnes. From Exeter you can take the Dartmoor Line, a re-opened branch line, to Okehampton (summer Sundays only). Alternatively, take a steam train ride from Totnes to Buckfastleigh on the South Devon Railway.

National Express Coach services will take you to Newton Abbot and Okehampton (via Exeter). There are airports at Exeter, Plymouth, and Bristol.

BRING YOUR BIKE
Great Western have a reservable bicycle fare of £1 per single journey (£2 return), to guarantee a place for your bicycle in new special on-train racks. There are six spaces for bikes on each Great Western service situated in the Guard’s van adjacent to Coach A.

Passengers with bicycles are welcome on most Virgin trains. To avoid disappointment, make an advance reservation for your cycle (a small charge is made) when you purchase your ticket, as space is subject to availability.

Cycles are also welcome on the South Devon Railway (Totnes - Buckfastleigh) with space for eight bikes per train, although up to 30 bikes can be carried by special arrangement. (Tel: 01364 642338).

Cycles can be carried on the Dartmoor Line, but space is officially limited to two cycles per train. More may be accommodated on mid-day trains at the conductor’s discretion.
(Tel: 01837 55637/55667).

A Bike Bus service B1 operates from Okehampton from May to September serving a part of the route and connecting with other cycle routes in the area.
